The Canyonlands Journey
2019
The idea for Canyonlands Camps is born in the heart of Canyonlands National Park, envisioned by founders and managing partners Caroline Matthews and Connor McCarthy.2020
Canyonlands is officially founded, and the journey to acquire exceptional camps begins.2021
Camp Hidden Meadows becomes the first official Canyonlands camp.2022
Camp Runoia and Camp Twin Creeks join the Canyonlands family, expanding operations into Maine.2023
Alpengirl and Camp Jeanne d’Arc are welcomed, adding both an adventure-based program and a traditional overnight camp experience.2024
Business operations across five legacy camps are fully integrated, realizing the vision of a unified Canyonlands Camps.2025
Oasis Day Camps becomes Canyonlands’ first day camp program with three locations across the greater NYC metro area.2026

Caroline Matthews & Connor McCarthy
Canyonlands was founded by Caroline Matthews and Connor McCarthy, two business operators with a deep appreciation of the transformative power of the great outdoors.
They saw an untapped opportunity to bring operational excellence and sustainability to a fragmented industry. Their vision for Canyonlands was born on a backcountry camping trip in Canyonlands National Park, a place that embodies the spirit of adventure and the love of nature.
Since then, the Canyonlands team has developed a proven playbook that applies data-driven processes, rigorous financial discipline, and exceptionally high standards to a business that is truly about developing today’s youth. Each investment is carefully chosen to align with the Canyonlands vision of building the world’s best outdoor recreation businesses and the best place to work.
